Event: City of McAllen Arbor Day Challenge

About the Ride:

Come out this March and help us celebrate our 6th Anniversary! Run, cycle, or walk with us as we celebrate Arbor Day in our City and our region!

This year, the Arbor Day Celebration Committee teamed up again to bring you an exciting family-friendly event that will play an important role in “planting” the future for trees in our city.

On March 4, 2017, Keep McAllen Beautiful will host the 6th annual Arbor Day Celebration.  The Arbor Day Celebration, is an event where you can run a timed 5K or 10K, do a 25-mile bike tour or a Family Fun Walk along the Hike & Bike Trail. New this year is a “combo” event, you can run the 5K and hop on your bike for the 25mile tour (runners must complete the 5k in under 40 minutes).  These events all start at McAllen Municipal Park.  The 5K and 10K are Certified by US Track & Field! The 25 mile bike tour will feature an escort and SAG vehicle. This year will feature healthful vendors and fun activities for the kids.  We invite you to come out and participate with the rest of your community!  Get active, celebrate trees, and enjoy the beautiful RGV spring weather!

Arbor Day is a day when we celebrate nature’s gift of trees, the tall providers of shade, fruit, fun, and a habitat for many different kinds of wildlife.  This Arbor Day, come out and make a difference by helping us continue to establish a dedicated tree-planting fund with the money raised at this event, and by planting some trees yourself!  Together, we are making our city greener, cooler, and more beautiful.

Thank you for making it possible!

Residents and participants may select as many as two 1 gallon containerized trees but not more than 1 of any one species.  The saplings will be available while supplies last and will include Anacua, Border Palo Verde, Brazil, Cedar Elm, Coma, Desert Yaupon, Fiddlewood, Guajillo, Potato Tree, Retama, Sierra Torchwood, Soapberry, Texas Ebony, Texas Persimmon, White Brush, Wolfberry and Yellow Sophora.

These species were provided by the Valley Nature Center to replenish our urban forest and natural ecosystem. We appreciate your support and from the bottom of our hearts, we proudly say Thank You!!
